Rules of The Road Ireland has traditionally had a document called “The Rules of the Road”. It is an advisory document with no legal effect. If one wishes to establish the legal position it is necessary to look at the Statutes like in the attached information about overtaking. Since Road Safety has fallen under the remit of the Road Safety Authority, a more detailed document has been issued and this can be helpful in deciding minor issues between motorists.
