Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2006 (S.I. No. 370 of 2006).

The Regulations deal with vibration arising from the use of hand tools and other machinery. Two kinds of vibration are dealt with. These are Hand-Arm Vibration (HAV) that arises from use of hand tools causing vibration in hands and arms and Whole Body Vibration (WBV). WBV arises from the use of machinery and vehicles causing vibration to be experienced through seat or feet. Specific exposure limit values and action values are contained within the Regulations. The essence of these Regulations is to assess the risks and reduce exposure.  Exposure limit values are set. Employers and others must provide information and training and provide health surveillance. Some provisions will not apply until July 2010.
