Our Stories
With a rural upbringing, Mary has sound knowledge of the farming industry and initially worked in the equine industry gaining on the ground knowledge and experience. Based on these interests, she completed a degree in Equine Science in University of Limerick and her interest in horses and farming continues to this day.
After graduation she gravitated towards FBD Insurance, the Irish farm insurance specialists. She worked in claims and initially gained experience handling motor damage claims before advancing to injury claims on the Motor, EL and PL book of business. In 2006 she moved home from Dublin to Cork. There she worked with Aon Insurance Brokers gaining valuable insight into the Brokers side of the insurance world. In 2008 she moved into Loss Adjusting working with leading professionals and gaining experience on claims investigation and handling from a wide range of sectors many of which are reflected in our services section. Mary obtained her ACII qualification whilst working in the industry and to bolster her knowledge also completed a Certificate in Health and Safety Practice.
Having handled all types of claims over the years Mary has gained invaluable experience on claims management and can practically advise on next steps for both the Insured and Insurer. Mary has always held firm on the belief that early investigation of a case is key to the effective management of the claim.
Mary has a strong belief in Insurance as a profession and has been involved on the Council of the Insurance Institute of Cork for a number of years.
John Higgins started his career with the Shield Insurance Company that later became Zurich. He embarked on the Insurance Exams soon after and completed his ACII after moving to Church and General that later became Allianz. John Worked in Dublin for a period before being asked to start a new Claims Branch in the existing branch in Cork. John was very fortunate to work in the kind of claims that could often be fought successfully even in those dark days when Cork was considered to be “The Claims Capital of Ireland”. This meant wide exposure to some of the best and brightest Lawyers, Engineers and a wide range of professionals. This also meant that John built up a wide range of experience in that period up to 2000 or so. After a brief spell with a loss adjusting company, a number of ex-colleagues suggested that John would be ideally placed to carry out early investigations and advise on strategy.
John started this company in 2003 and has investigated and dealt with a very wide range of claims since. John was privileged to be elected President of the Insurance Institute of Cork in 2003/4.
John has also engaged in teaching with the III for most of his career initially on a purely voluntary basis. John may be out on his own as the person who has taught all six subjects of the CIP. He also developed and authored a number of the III Text books over the years. John is currently the Tutor for the Advanced Claims Management Subject in the Higher Diploma in Insurance Management
